Joe Johnson, '05, Bachelor of Architecture - Previously, Joe worked for Process Facilities for 5 years before being acquired by Parsons. Currently, he works in the Boston office for the Life Sciences division of Parsons Commercial Technology Group. He has worked on the following types of projects over the past 10 years: laboratories, pharmaceutical plants, office space, etc.
"I find the technical nature of these types of projects to be very rewarding. Working integrally with the other engineers to develop comprehensive solutions has been a great learning experience."

 

LEHIGH UNIVERSITY

Matthew DeMarco, '97 B.S. & '98 M.S., Civil/Environmental Engineering - Matthew is a Project Manager with 9 years experience in the design, construction, start-up and operation of industrial wastewater treatment plants. He has traveled extensively in support of Parsons' wastewater treatment plant projects across the United States, Canada, Europe, China, Puerto Rico and the Philippines. Mr. DeMarco is currently based in the Syracuse, NY office.

"A lot of people ask me why working for Parsons is different than other engineering companies and it's not always easy to answer! But when it comes down to it, I feel the people I work with at Parsons, my clients and the type of projects we do make the difference. In my 10 years with the company, I continue to work closely with the same people with whom I interviewed. I have been able to work on multiple one of a kind, state of the art industrial wastewater treatment facilities throughout North America, Europe and Asia. I relocated to Ireland for 3 years to manage the design and construction of a pharmaceutical wastewater treatment facility. I'm currently working on major projects in Houston, Texas; Shanghai, China and Laguna, Philippines from our offices in Syracuse, NY."

Paul Boyajian, '93, M.S., Civil and Environmental Engineering - Paul Boyajian, M.S., Civil Engineering - Paul has been with Parsons for 9 years and has over 18 years of experience in project management, design and construction. He is currently serving as the ExxonMobil Program Manager and Boston Design Practice Manager. He has recently served as the Technical Director for the 125 acre, $23 million design/build, state of art landfill project in Baghdad, Iraq as well as a 4,000 foot long, 50 foot deep soil bentonite cut-off wall constructed using slurry techniques in New York.

"Although I had several employment options, I selected Parsons because I felt that Parsons would provide me as much responsibility as I could handle (based on my performance, not years of experience). After working at Parsons for 9 years, it is very evident that this is true. I enjoy working at Parsons for its diversity of projects, challenges, and opportunities as well as the quality of the people."

 

NEW YORK INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY

BO Haynes, ’08, MBA, Marketing,(’03, BS, Economics and Marketing (double-major), University of North Carolina at Greensboro) – BO is the Visual Communications Manager for our Commercial Technology Global Business Unit. He has nearly a decade of experience in design, marketing, communications, operations, and information technology. He and his department have worked on thousands of marketing efforts used around the world to successfully promote Parsons and win new projects.
"I’m in my sixth year with Parsons and I’ve committed to a long career here because I continue to receive genuinely exciting and enriching challenges, responsibilities and opportunities. My dedication and hard work have advanced me over the years from a part-time college intern to full-time employee to heading my Global Business Unit’s Art Department."

 

PENN STATE

Sean Sommer,’97, B.S., Chemical Engineering – Sean Sommer is a Business Development Manager with the Life Sciences Division in Parsons Commercial Technology. Sean previously worked as a process engineer designing biotechnology facilities before he moved into his current sales role. Sean also has a MS in in Finance as well from Temple University. Sean recently married Maria Tambourino who is also a Penn State alumnus. Sean is an avid Penn State fan and is the Treasurer of the Penn State Philadelphia Alumni Association.

"Parsons provides a wealth of opportunities for engineers on some of the most exciting projects in the world. I came to parsons because of the diverse projects and people. I enjoy working at Parsons because of the fun and rewarding atmosphere."

Deborah Hreha, ’75, B.S., Chemistry – Deborah began her career with Parsons in 1985 and is currently a Senior Scientist working for our Project Services Division, in Pittsburgh, PA. She is responsible for routine analyses submitted to the Division of Coal Science and overseeing budget & safety of personnel. Her recent large assignment involved evaluating companies supplying inductively coupled plasma (ICP) and laboratory information management systems in order to purchase appropriate systems for site use.

Craig Richardson,’94, B.S., Landscape Architecture – Craig is our Landscape Architect in Buffalo, NY. He is currently responsible for site planning and landscape architectural design for projects within Western New York, and the Eastern Regional offices of Parsons Transportation Group. He has over 8 years of experience in performing duties for parks, commercial, urban, residential, waterfront projects, and educational and state facilities.

"The ability to work on various levels of design, from master planning all the way through to construction, the various locations and working on some of the largest projects in the country, initially drew me to Parsons. I continue to enjoy exploring new locations during my travels and working with the various disciplines Parsons has to offer."

Penny Mascaro, ’83. B.S., Environmental Resource Management - Penny has been with Parsons for more than 18 years and is currently a Project Manager in Fairfax, VA. Her professional experience includes wastewater, solid waste and hazardous waste management, treatment, reuse and disposal. With a personal emphasis on recycling and reuse, she has developed regulations, management plans, opportunity assessments, environmental impact statements and market analyses related to waste management. In addition to environmental work, Penny has performed program management assistance for major telecommunications clients and Department of Defense clients. For the last seven years she has been performing condition assessments for federal clients and supporting the US Navy's housing initiatives.

"I was initially drawn to Parsons after learning of the diverse nature of projects performed by the company. Working for Parsons has given me the opportunity to not only work on a wide variety of projects but in a variety of locations as well. I especially enjoy the challenge of arriving in a foreign country with a task to perform and a new culture to explore."

Holly Klotz, '81. B.S., Adult Development and Aging - Holly is a senior sourcing specialist in our corporate human resources group and identifies candidates to work on Parsons' federal, water, and construction projects. She has also been the communication and marketing lead for our federal group, and a business development manager for Parsons' environmental services for commercial and municipal clients. Holly was also the liaison with the publisher of our corporate history book, The Story of Parsons Corporation. She has been with Parsons since 2002.

"I grew up reading about Parsons. My dad is a civil engineer and always subscribed to magazines which described the big projects Parsons engineered and built. When I relocated to Southern California, I started working in the building systems and environmental industries. I was fortunate to eventually be hired by Parsons. I enjoy working here for many reasons but, essentially for me, its fun to be associated with the people who create such amazing infrastructure."

POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE-BROOKLYN

Raoul Ilaw, ’85, M.S., Management - Raoul Ilaw is currently Regional Program Manager for the Eastern Region on the Technical Support Services Contract (TSSC) for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The four- year, $481 million contract contains two three-year options, which would total $1.25 billion for the ten-year effort. Prior to assignment on this high profile project, Raoul was the Parsons National Program Manager for Edison Schools, Inc where he managed a number of project managers and personally oversaw the construction of two high profile schools in New York and Pennsylvania.

"I joined De Leuw Cather, a Unit of Parsons Corporation, in 1982 because of the opportunities the company provided to me as a young engineer two years out of school. I was able to work on design and construction projects which allowed me to find out what I really wanted to do. I chose the construction management track and subsequently was assigned to a number of high profile self fulfilling projects in the NY metropolitan area. The experience I gained over the years has allowed me to grow as a manager and a person. I now have the opportunity to work with younger staff to allow them to grow in the company as I did."

Ayman Shama, - ’99, M.S., & ’00, Ph.D., Structural Engineering– Ayman is an Engineer for our Bridge and Tunnel Division. During the conduct of several projects at both Buffalo and Boston, Ayman has gained a great experience in the area of inelastic behavior of structures. He was also involved in structural component testing, structural monitoring and instrumentation, structural evaluation and rehabilitation, nonlinear static pushover analysis, probabilistic damage assessment and Fragility analysis of structures and seismic evaluation of existing structures. Ayman’s current project involves the seismic evaluation of the Queensboro bridge.

"I had the opportunity with Parsons to work in a number of unprecedented projects such as the seismic design of the New Tacoma Narrows Suspension Bridge in Washington, and the A-25 Cable Stayed Bridge in Quebec."

 

SUNY-BUFFALO

James Pawela, ’71, B.S. - Jim is Vice President of Business Development, in Washington, D.C. , with over 25 years experience in transportation program management, information systems and corporate management. He has worked extensively on both international and domestic assignments. Currently Jim manages the mid-Atlantic business development efforts for the Parson Transportation Group. Major assignments have included: Program Control Manager for the Airport Access Program for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey; Program Manager and Project Control Specialist for the Phoenix (Arizona) Outer Loop Highway, a 52-mile freeway around metropolitan Phoenix; Project Supervisory for program management and project control components of international technical assistance projects including: Ghana Priority Works Project (World Bank); Pakistan - 4th Highway Project Management Cell (World Bank); and Taiwan - National Expressway Engineering Bureau (Taiwan Government); and Deputy Team Leader and Systems Engineer on the Saudi Arabia Highway Construction Operations Management project, supervised planners, schedulers and field-based Construction Operations Management System (HCOMS) for local contractors undertaking the Riyadh-Al Qassim highway.
